Welcome to The Practice, I am glad you are here!
The Practice was created to serve individuals and families with high-quality attachment-based and trauma-informed mental health services.
Building safe and secure therapeutic relationships is the focus here at the Practice, as I believe our attachment relationships are core components to our mental health.
Take a look around, read about my background and expertise, and feel free to reach out with any questions.
A Little Bit About My background, approach, & areas of care
I’m Dr. Cunningham, better known as Dr. C to my clients. I am a clinical psychologist with dual training in both infant/early childhood + adult mental health. I specialize in trauma, grief, and attachment; with an additional subspecialty in medical complexities (some common areas I frequently support include medical traumas, perinatal + reproductive complications, stroke/seizure, cancer, NICU/PICU, pediatric cardiac conditions, and brain injuries).
My dual training allows me the honor and pleasure of treating little ones, as they often get overlooked in the mental health world. Supporting little ones is done through working with the adults that care for them! It’s important that the adults that care for little ones, are also cared for! My birth to five work focuses on areas such as parental support services, attachment concerns, managing difficult behaviors, sleep, separation anxiety, and adjustment in family dynamics (for example adjusting to a new sibling).
On the adult side of things (in addition to the medical areas listed above), I often work on areas such as identity, postpartum, parental role adjustment, anxiety, depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and grief support (including stillbirth, infant, & child loss).
I absolutely love the brain/nervous system, attachment, and trauma-informed care! These areas of expertise are strong influences in how I approach care. I refer to them as “The Big 3” and strongly believe these three factors heavily influence our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The “Big 3” are relevant, no matter how old we are! From birth throughout our lifespan-these factors are ever present in our lives.
Being a client at The Practice means these areas will always be foundational pillars to your care plan (and of course I add in things like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) when clinically indicated. It is my goal for my clients to become experts on their own nervous system, attachment style(s), and influence of any traumatic experiences they’ve endured.
